Will tech salaries in San Francisco keep increasing?
After an initial scare and a wave of layoffs due to Covid-19, much of the Bay Area has witnessed a quick yet targeted economic recovery. Tech employment in the professional and business sector is up from pre-pandemic levels in the Bay Area, as well as jobs in the financial sector across the state, according to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics. Although employment and incomes in the Bay Area IT sector declined roughly 10% compared to last year, data suggests that this might be driven by the loss of jobs outside of traditional tech sectors like publishing, video/sound work or administrative work.
Statistically, the Bay Area continues to prosper. If the region were its own nation, it would own the world’s 19th largest economy, with a per-capita GDP superior to Singapore’s. San Francisco proudly hosts 18 Fortune 500 companies with 38 Fortune 500 companies calling Silicon Valley home. Even as costs rise in the area, companies are continuing to thrive, growing their workforce as well as their bottom line. Despite global uncertainties, experts say Bay Area tech workers will continue to see an increase in salaries.
