Will tech salaries in the Bay Area keep increasing?

San Francisco has been the Mecca of tech professionals for more than a decade prior to the pandemic, which drastically changed the tech talent landscape. Statistically, the Bay Area is impressively prosperous. If the region were its own nation, it would own the world’s 19th largest economy, with per-capita GDP superior to Singapore’s. San Francisco proudly hosts 18 Fortune 500 companies and 39 call Silicon Valley their home. Throughout the years, despite the area's increasing high costs, companies keep growing, adding jobs, and filling them. Despite global uncertainties regarding immigration, trade and local scarce housing, experts say Bay Area businesses will continue to see an increase in Bay Area tech salaries.

After an initial scare and a wave of layoffs due to Covid-19, much of the Bay Area has witnessed a quick yet targeted economic recovery. Tech employment in the professional and business sector is up from pre-pandemic levels in the Bay Area, and so are jobs in the financial sector across the state, according to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics. And though employment and incomes in the Bay Area information sector declined roughly 10% compared to last year, data suggests that might be driven by the loss of jobs outside of the traditional tech sector, like publishing, video/sound work or administrative work.
